Adventures in The United Arab Emirates!
It was just an ordinary afternoon when I received an email from an overseas event company asking for my availability for an event. I don’t always get this kind of messages but when I do, the dates usually don’t align, the demand of the event is not within my capacity or the cost is not within their budget.
But this time, it was different. Somehow, everything fell into place within 2 weeks and before I knew it, I was on an Emirates flight on my way to The United Arab Emirates! Imagine the whirlwind of activity figuring out hotel bookings, travel itineraries, and packing all my supplies to a place that I’ve never travelled before. I was filled with anticipation and excitement because opportunities like these are a dime in a dozen.
I went to several event locations within The UAE and had to travel quite long distances by car from point to point. I was on the road most of the time, moving from hotel to hotel and arriving early before each event commenced. But in between, I had the chance to visit iconic landmarks in Dubai, see the camels in the desert and savour some delicious cuisine there. I met lots of wonderful people and they were equally pleased to meet someone all the way from Singapore. It felt like I was an ambassador for my country and I had a wonderful time showing them my artistic skills.

It was such a surreal experience to travel to the Middle East where to share my craft with people from the other side of the globe. Truly, the language of art is universal and anyone and everyone can appreciate art which evokes a feeling like no other. It is moments like this that make my heart full.
You never know where your art can take you, but it is the unknown that is both scary and exciting. As the wise Seneca says ‘Luck is a thing that happens when opportunity meets preparation’.
